About IH Barcelona
International House Barcelona was founded in 1972 and has since grown into a major centre for language teaching, teacher training, study tours and related activities.
There are six main areas of activity in the school:
- Training teachers of Spanish and English
- Teaching English (as well as Chinese, French and German) to people living in Barcelona
- Teaching Spanish to students from all over the world
- Translation courses
- Translation Services (via ih-translation.com)
- Sending students from Spain to study languages abroad
What makes IH Barcelona special?
International House is not quite like most other language schools. We've been around longer than most, and we're centrally located in great premises in one of the world's most exciting cities - Barcelona.
Our courses are taken by thousands of students from around the world, so at any one time there is a truly international mixture in the school... But it's neither that nor the school's location that makes us unique.
What does make us stand out from the crowd is the quality of our teaching. We don't just teach language courses, we also train language teachers - which includes, of course, our own - to exacting standards.
And it's that that makes us special...

IH Barcelona also belongs to the IH Eastern Spain group of language schools [ website ], which comprises seven centres in the north-east of Spain (Catalonia and Aragon) - in Barcelona, Mataró, Palma de Mallorca, Sabadell, Tarragona, Terrassa and Zaragoza.
IH Spain
In addition, IH Barcelona is one of the eight schools in the IH Spain organization [ website ], which comprises language and teacher training centres in Barcelona, Cordoba, Madrid, Palma de Mallorca, San Sebastian, Seville, Valencia and Vejer de la Frontera.
The International House World Organisation
Founded in 1953, International House [ website ] is a network of more than 130 schools around the world, all committed to the highest standards in education and business.
A key aim of International House is to raise the standards of language teaching around the world. One important way in which we do this is through Teacher Training courses for which International House has a world-wide reputation. We train our own (as well as many other schools') teachers to enable language students to learn the language of their choice simply, quickly and efficiently in a rich linguistic and cultural environment.
To ensure that every school maintains the high standards that are specified in the Affiliation Agreement, an external assessor visits each school every two years and conducts a thorough investigation into all aspects of the school's activities. These visits ensure that the unparalleled reputation International House enjoys for the quality of its services is safeguarded.
