The first environmentally-friendly language school?

EmasInternational House Barcelona has recently been registered by the European Union's Eco—Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS). This is in response to the concerted and continuous effort made by IH Barcelona to lessen the impact its activities have on the environment.

EMAS is an initiative designed to encourage companies to improve their environmental performance. It was initially established by European Regulation 1836/93, although this has now been replaced by Council Regulation 761/01.

The aim of EMAS is to publicly recognise those organisations that go beyond minimum legal compliance and continuously improve their environmental performance. By using fewer raw materials, consuming less energy and producing less waste companies can significantly lessen the impact they have on the environment and also become more competitive.

It is a requirement of the scheme that participating organisations produce a public environmental statement that reports on their environmental performance. The accuracy and reliability of this environmental information is regularly checked by a qualified and independent environmental verifier.

International House Barcelona has been registered by EMAS since November 2007.
