English through Film (A7)
Who doesn't watch movies? We all love them and enjoy talking about them and commenting on the actors, the plot, the script, and the director.
This course is for students who not only enjoy watching movies but also want an opportunity to engage in lively and challenging discussion when the film has finished.
We will be looking at films that have somehow been significant in the history of English language cinema. We'll look at the plot, the actors, the directors, how cinema has evolved since the beginning of the "talkies" and how it's been used as propaganda, an educational tool and of course as a "dream factory".
Here are some of the films we'll be looking at:
- Gone with the Wind
- Cabaret
- Miller's Crossing
- Singing in the Rain
- North by Northwest
- Cleopatra
