English through Literature 1 (A7)
Literature 1 is designed for students who have finished a FCE course and want to continue improving their level of English through reading and discussing literature. The course starts off with a variety of short stories by writers such as:
- Oscar Wilde
- Zadie Smith
- Henry James
- Paul Auster
- Jean Rhys
- Kate Chopin
Most of the reading is done outside class although we read poetry and short plays in class which is excellent for improving pronunciation!
Classes are very participative with lively discussion and debate about the characters, themes and socio-political aspects of the works.

English through Literature 2 (A9)
Literature 2 is for students at Post CAE level who really enjoy reading novels in English and who are also interested in the latest literature being published in the English speaking world. You'll also be keen to polish up your speaking skills by participating in challenging class debates and discussions about works such as:
- Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides
- My Life as a Fake by Peter Carey
- White Teeth by Zadie Smith
- Breakfast at Tiffany's by Truman Capote
- The Lady and the Unicorn by Tracy Chevalier
Video and film related to the novel being read will also be included. Most of the reading is done outside class and students are encouraged to make suggestions about the content of the course and contribute their own ideas.
