A6: First Certificate Course

FCE exam course
The Cambridge exam defines much of the content of this level: listening, writing, reading, speaking and grammar each make up about 20% of the course. Students have to work hard at this level and will be expected to write a composition at least once a week at home. You will make a lot of progress, especially in writing and you will start to feel more confident about using and understanding English. We will give you a practice test in February to help you decide if you should try the exam. IH has Cambridge-trained examiners to help prepare and train you for the speaking part of the exam.
Alternative A6 "non-exam" course
This level 6 general course is for students who do not want an exam focused class but who want to keep on improving their level of English.
It is also a good option for students who know that they will not have time to do the extra study outside class required in an exam class. The level of the English in both courses is the same - what differs is the focus.
In this course there are fewer FCE exam practice type activities and more emphasis on building up your general level of English.
