A9: Pre-Proficiency
General course
Even if you've passed the Cambridge Advanced exam (CAE), it's a very big jump from CAE to Cambridge Proficiency (CPE). Proficiency requires a wider knowledge of vocabulary, idiomatic expressions and collocation.
In the Pre-Proficiency course you will be exposed to the type of language, lexis and syntax required at CPE level. You will follow the first half of the Proficiency coursebook as well as reading a variety of authentic texts taken from newspapers and magazines in order to expand your range of vocabulary. You will work on the the areas which generally prove most difficult for students at this level such as summary writing skills.
A wider range of vocabulary means you will be able to express yourself more precisely - therefore your oral skills will improve greatly too!
Alternative course
As an alternative to taking the Pre-Proficiency course, there is a modern world course as well as an English literature course at this level.
