6. The dragons

Not only at the Fiesta de Gràcia will you find dragons in the city. Strolling around Barcelona you'll discover pictures and sculptures of dragons and lizards hidden just about everywhere.
The architect Antoni Gaudí, whose fanciful and colorful works you will find all over the city, particularly just loved dragon-like creatures. You will find them as gargoyles on buildings and fountains, painted on ceramic tiles or integrated into the decoration of gates, like at the Palau Reial.
But why all these dragons? The passion for dragons is probably based on the legend of Sant Jordi (Saint George) who defeated the dragon, and who is the patron saint of Catalonia.
