10 reasons why you just have to experience Barcelona
8. The parks

On your tour through Barcelona, you will always find a nearby park to go for a short walk or to sit down to relax... Having talked about Gaudí, I have to mention Parc Güell now, a wonderful park, which is located on a hill in the northern part of the city and looks like a visionary landscape taken out of a fairytale.
Promenading through the park, you will enter caves with rolling arches and pass oriental-looking buildings with onion spires, decorated with many-colored tiles and surrounded by tropical palm trees. There are huge stairs, which lead into a portico with white columns and mosaics on the ceiling, often chosen as a stage by various musicians, probably because of its great acoustics.
To relax after an exiting day in Barcelona it's also lovely to hang out in the Parc de la Ciutadella, which is just down the road from IH. Just lean back on a bench or lay down in the shade of a palm tree next to the boat pond, and watch people jogging past you or juggling with pois, sticks and clubs. And as the city zoo adjoins the south side of the park, don't be surprised if you hear the roar of a lion or the trumpet of an elephant, which really makes you feel like you are on holiday in a far away country.
