Spanish for teenagers (13-17) in Tarragona

Our Spanish for teenagers course takes place in Tarragona, a pleasant coastal resort approximately 100 km south of Barcelona (86 km from the airport) [locate on map].

Tarragona is a provincial capital and has a population of around 115,000. It is situated on the Costa Dorada and is an ideal location for a teenage program of this kind. The town is lively, but not too big; it has its own sandy beaches within walking distance of the school; it is very close to Port Aventura (one of Europe's largest theme parks) and is only an hour from Barcelona by bus or train.

The course, which includes a full social program, is run as a joint venture between IH Barcelona and IH Tarragona. The Director, Keith Armstrong, and his team have extensive experience of organising junior courses and dealing with younger students as a large majority of IH Tarragona's language students are under the age of 17.

Course methodology

Our course is designed to ensure that students enjoy their Spanish classes as much as they enjoy the rest of the course programme. Classroom activities are therefore varied and where possible involve tasks or games that make the learning process interesting and fun.

The aim of the course is to develop the students' language skills in all areas but the emphasis is on developing speaking and comprehension skills, so there are a lot of practical activities that involve a great deal of interaction. As we have students from very many nationalities, it is relatively easy to ensure that everyone uses Spanish to communicate.

We also try to ensure that students get the most out of their visits to places of interest in and around Tarragona so some class time is devoted to project work focused on the social programme activities.

Dates 2010	The course will run from Monday 28 June to Saturday 7 August and students will be able to stay from 2 to 6 weeks. Possible starting dates are therefore as follows: 28 June (2, 3, 4, 5 or 6 weeks) 5 July (2, 3, 4, or 5 weeks) 12 July (2, 3, or 4 weeks) 19 July (2 or 3 weeks) 26 July (2 weeks) Students should arrange to arrive on the Sunday before the course begins, and book departure flights for the Saturday their course finishes.
Accommodation	Two types of accommodation are available: Host families - single or shared rooms Student residence - single or shared rooms In all cases, the accommodation is with full board. Insurance

All students will be covered by a basic insurance policy while in Tarragona. However, we strongly recommend students to take out additional travel insurance in their country of origin to cover any loss, sickness or accident which may occur during the course.

About IH Tarragona

IH Tarragona [ website ] was opened in 1980. The school building is on a broad tree-lined avenue (the Rambla) in the very centre of the city. The school is located in a typical town house and there are 8 spacious classrooms as well as a study area with internet use for students.

The school offers English classes to students from the local population throughout the year and Spanish courses in the summer - in collaboration with IH Barcelona.
