La traducción literaria como diálogo cultural
El texto literario no es un artefacto cultural aislado y, como producto de una determinada cultura, establece un diálogo permanente con otros textos del presente y el pasado. El texto literario se resiste a ser traducido y el traductor ha de reconocer esos núcleos de resistencia, que no son meramente lingüísticos, para rescribir un texto literario autónomo en su propia cultura.

Olivia de Miguel es profesora titular de la Pompeu Fabra, Directora y Profesora del Postgrado de Traducción Literaria, traductora literaria para diversas editoriales y Premio de Traducción Angel Crespo 2005.

Scientific translation for non-scientists
Like it or not, there's more work to be found translating clinical trials than translating slim volumes of poetry. The talk suggests ways for non-scientists to approach scientific translation.

Michael Maudsley is the creator and tutor of the popular IH Translation Course leading to the Chartered Institute of Linguists Diploma in Translation, both by distance and in situ. He has been working as a translator for more than fifteen years.

Cómo transformarse de Shakespeare en Cervantes sin morir en el intento: Valores específicos de cada idioma

A modo de taller de trabajo, hablaremos sobre los rasgos de personalidad de ambos idiomas y su influencia en la traducción. Por ejemplo: su tendencia natural a expresarse de forma implícita o explícita, a ahorrar o no ahorrar palabras, al enfoque rápido o no tan rápido hacia la idea principal, etc. Hablaremos también sobre the third language. Como base de trabajo, proporcionaremos a cada asistente una sinopsis con ideas y ejemplos concretos sobre los cuales todos podremos aportar opiniones.

Sight translation – an aid to interpreting
This workshop will focus on the nature of sight translation and how it can be used to practise and develop simultaneous interpreting skills. We shall look at texts and speeches in the following languages: English/Spanish/Catalan – and German/French if there is interest.

Keith Armstrong (Dip CIT) trained and worked as a freelance conference interpreter (French, German, Spanish) in London between 1997 and 2001. He also worked at the University of Westminster as personal assistant to the coordinator of the European Masters in Conference Interpreting – a project set up by the European Commission, European Parliament and a number of European universities offering postgraduate courses in conference interpreting.

Mining the Internet
Translators inevitably use the Internet to solve translation problems. In this session we will look into the performance of specialised online dictionaries, glossaries and forums vs. online translated text resources.

Teacher of interpreting and computer skills for translators in the "Facultat de Ciències Humanes, Traducció i Documentació", Universitat de Vic, since its foundation in 1993, and webmaster at the same university since 2002.

Round Table

An opportunity to exchange opinions and ask questions. The Round Table panel is made up of translation teachers and correctors and some of today's speakers, who will discuss and answer questions on aspects of the world of translation, frequently asked questions, typical problems and errors, personal experiences, translation exams and any other connected topic which the audience raises.

Se trata de una mesa redonda en la que participaran asistentes y tutores para hablar de Traducción; preguntas frecuentes en el mundo de la traducción, errores más usuales, cómo solucionarlos, experiencias personales, los exámenes de traducción como el IOL,... en fin, todo lo que penséis que podría ser interesante para intercambiar opiniones sobre vuestra profesión.
