Task #2: A six-word biography

With a partner, create a six-word biography of a famous person.
Example: So much talent, all blown away (Ronaldinho)

Click "comments" (below) and add it to those already there.

Don't forget that you should create a second comment to record what you think of the task.

The plus and negative points we considered for language learners are:

+ Using language economically
+ Collaborative
+ Using descriptive words
+ Simple sentence structure
- Could be very difficult for learners

We quite enjoyed the task, we thought it was something different. Probably better for stressed CELTA students rather than English students.

"Sold his post feet to LA" being David Beckham, of course!

You can see here how Spanish students at IH BCN are using this idea for a project (and a competition).

Personally, I'd suggest that six words is a bit short (though, again, it's the discussion you can get out of it that matters, as much as anything else).

Here's another idea for a writing project which requires your learners to write a bit more...

I'd suggest that getting them to work together in pairs, to produce one piece of writing for each pair, is one the best ways to maximise the interaction.
