E-learning and skills development in the secondary classroom

The course is aimed at practising teachers in secondary schools who want to broaden their knowledge of how to integrate e-learning into their classrooms by exploring ways in which a computer and internet can be used in the everyday classroom. The focus will be on online resources as well as some of the communicative tools the Internet provides to help teachers plan motivating lessons for their learners.
During the course teachers will be provided with ideas on setting up and designing web-based activities, using webquests, using the Internet in class and designing technology based projects suitable for secondary students which help to increase motivation, participation and concentration.

- Basic computer skills + searching for things on the Internet
- Lesson planning using the Internet
- Webquests
- Creating your own website
- Podcasting
- The interactive whiteboard and CD-rom resources
- Using the Internet for project work and developing cultural awareness
- Useful websites for teachers of English
- Published and authentic resources
Timetable: 9.00-14.15 plus personal study time
- 9.00 – 10.30 Session 1
- 10.30 –11.00 Break
- 11.00 - 12.30 Session 2
- 12.45 – 14.15 Session 3
1 hour study time with relevant task each evening.
