I have gained a deeper knowledge of what CLIL is about [and] learned so many new ideas to implement in the classroom both from our teacher and from my peers.

Something that I enjoyed about all of the modules was their practicality. I also liked the fact that we had to create lessons and discuss them and not only reading boring theory.

This five-week 100% online course in Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) is intended for teachers who wish to integrate a CLIL approach in their classrooms.

The course is most suitable to teachers of younger learners between the ages of approximately eleven and sixteen years old, but would also be of interest to teachers of adults who wish to know more about CLIL.

The course is very practical in nature in as much as generic lesson plans are included as models for course participants to try out in their own classrooms and to further develop: the principles inherent in these model lesson plans can be applied to any topic area within a CLIL syllabus.

The course consists of five core modules (two shown, right) intended to be completed one per week.

However, participants will most usually spend considerable classroom time experimenting with the ideas and materials offered on the course and will engage in discussion with other participants and the course tutor on a regular basis on the course forums.

The course is fully online and there are no further costs to participants beyond the course fees.

Participants do not need expert computer skills: a knowledge of Word and how to use email are all the skills required. Technical back-up and assistance is provided as and if required, but it is in fact only rarely required.

Length & time commitment

It is notoriously difficult to predict exactly how many hours an online course will take any given student. For our courses, we believe you should estimate at least 5-6 hours per module for the reading and completion of the tasks set, giving around 30 hours minimum for this particular course.

That estimate excludes the amount of class time you use for experimenting with the ideas and material from the course.

You should aim to complete each course module within 7 to 10 days.
