About Cambridge English
Cambridge English exams are produced by the University of Cambridge's Language Assessment unit.
There are 3 categories of Cambridge English exams:
- Exams for young learners (Starters, Movers and Flyers)
- Lower Main Suite exams (KET and PET)
- Upper Main suite exams (FCE, CAE and CPE)
The first Cambridge English exam was produced over 100 years ago. The exam lasted 12-hours, there were just three candidates and they all failed!
These days Cambridge English produces more than 20 exams, for both learners and teachers of English, and they are taken by more than 4 million people each year.
Cambridge English Language Assessment was involved in the development of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and its Main Suite exams are all aligned to the CEFR levels.
