- If you really want to learn to communicate in English instead of doing exam preparation all the time
- If you want to keep your English level but have no time for homework or studying...
... then this is the course for you!
Advanced English is a course for post-FCE level students interested in maintaining and improving their fluency in speaking.
The course is formed around topic based modules – some serious, some not so serious – which usually last about 3 to 4 weeks to complete. You do not need to buy a course book and study material used in class is given as free photocopies.
Each module begins with an advanced level video programme, setting the theme.
There are vocabulary worksheets – not long boring readings – to quickly boost your vocabulary knowledge.
Specially prepared Pronunciation activities are also a regular feature of the lessons.
And then, of course, the oral activities. These come in many different types:
- Discussions
- Role plays
- "Meetings"
- Informal pair work
- Debates
- Presentations
During the course you will be asked to give both mini-presentations and longer presentations. These are designed to improve your confidence in speaking alone for longer periods of time in front of a small group of people. We also propose that some presentations are filmed.
All oral activities are followed by feedback on performance by the teacher – both at a class level and an individual level.
Testing
There are 3 tests during the course – one at the end of each term.
Tests are one-to-one with the teacher and are taped so that the teacher can assess your performance more carefully afterwards.
Tests are marked according to Cambridge CAE criteria.
Each test includes a short presentation. The topic for the presentation will be given to you about 10 minutes before the test.
