About IH Palma

IH Palma de Mallorca language school building

The language school

Established in 1982, International House Palma de Mallorca (IH Palma) occupies all four floors of a large, elegant building in the very centre of the old city, on the Plaza de Cort, immediately opposite the city hall.

The Plaza de Cort is one of the city's oldest, busiest and most attractive squares. Apart from the elegance and grandeur of its buildings, the square also contains an olive tree said to be several centuries old (visible on the right of the image at the top of this page).

IH Palma occupies one of the most prestigious buildings on the square. The area immediately around the school is known as the Old Quarter, is mostly pedestrianised, and contains many of the city's main tourist attractions, including the cathedral and the ancient Arab baths.

IH Palma has its own street level entrance and reception, from where you can take a lift or the stairs up to the classrooms. The school occupies all 4 floors of the building and has 20 air-conditioned classrooms, as well as a number of offices and recreational areas, including a computer lab with ADSL Internet access which you are able to use either before or after class.

The whole third floor of the school is also an wireless Internet hotspot, meaning that you can connect to the Internet from your own laptop if you wish.

Teacher training courses

The Cambridge CELTA course is the most well-known and respected of the initial TEFL/ESOL teacher training qualifications. International House is the organisation that created the original course to which Cambridge later gave its name; meaning that no organisation can offer more experience and expertise in the delivery of CELTA courses than IH.

You may already know that many of the best known and most respected textbooks in the industry (Headway, Cutting Edge, First Certificate Gold, Language to Go, Natural English, etc) were written by IH teachers.

The school is also well-known for providing training courses for teachers in Mallorca; we have trained teachers of Catalan for the local government, and given many seminars. The most recent of these was a government funded 30 hour course entitled "Using new technology in the language classroom".

Language courses

Apart from CELTA courses, International House Palma also offers language classes in English, Spanish, French, German and Italian. Our teachers give classes to private individuals (either on a 1:1 or group basis) and also to privately organised groups.

The school also has a large department dedicated to work-based learning: We give language classes in many public and private corporations, often funded through EU initiatives.

Finally, the school offers Spanish courses through the German Bildungsurlaub scheme, and a variety of courses through the EU Leonardo da Vinci progamme.
