English courses for adults

At International House Tarragona, adult students can take general courses in English, German, Spanish and Catalan, as well as courses specially prepared for individual or group needs.

Adult students normally attend classes in the evenings, after 19.00h, although there is a wide range of timetables to choose from, including Saturday morning, weekday morning and midday classes. General English classes are normally 1.5 hours long, twice a week. Intensive 3-hour classes are also available on Friday afternoons and Saturday mornings.

Levels range from Beginner to Proficiency. Courses may be 100% General English, 100% Business English or 50% General English/50%Business English.

International House Tarragona also offers preparation for the University of Cambridge General English examinations: KET, PET, First Certificate (FCE), Advanced (CAE) and Proficiency as well as the Business English examinations: Business English Certificate Preliminary (equivalent to PET), Vantage (equivalent to FCE) or Higher (equivalent to CAE).

We also run conversation classes for two hours per week. One-to-one classes, tailored to the student's individual needs, are also available.

All new students are given a short written test and are interviewed by the Director or Assistant Director of Studies, before being placed in a group appropriate to their level.

There is a maximum of eight students per group.

Courses take place between October and June, and summer courses of one or two months’ duration are organised in July and September.

All adult students are tested twice a year, in February and at the end of the academic year in June. Students have an individual tutorial with their teacher twice a year, which provides them with an opportunity to discuss their progress. Students are also free to speak to the Director or the Assistant Director of Studies at any time during the academic year to discuss their progress or any other issues.
