English for Work

English for Work courses are available at International House Terrassa and are open to everyone who would like to attend. They have been designed to develop linguistic abilities for those who need to use English in their working environment.

There are several different levels of English for Work, starting at an Intermediate level, and they involve activities such as answering the telephone, giving a presentation or writing letters in a work context. We offer an extensive format (65 hours) and intensive modules (20 hours).

• Extensive course: A single class each week from 20.15h to 22.10h. A nine-month course. Times and prices.
• Intensive course: Saturdays from 9.00h to 13.55h. 20 hours in one moth. Next course starting on: 2nd February 2008. Contact us for more information.

The courses have a clearly practical orientation, with the aim of helping the students complete the tasks required of them efficiently in English. The emphasis, as in all of our courses at International House, is on the practical use of the language for real communication in an enjoyable and dynamic way.

Intensive courses aim to achieve results fast: to this end our courses are taught by teams of teachers and draw upon a wide variety of materials and activities.

Based on the results of a written level test and a needs analysis interview, the teaching staff draw up a programme aimed at covering key areas essential for the professional development of the candidates.

The main topic areas are:

• Meeting people and Exchanging personal information
• Telephoning: basic expressions. Exchanging information on the phone
• Companies: describing companies. Talking about current activities and future projects
• Participating in meetings: expressing opinions, asking for clarification
• Making arrangements
• Business travel
• Describing change
• Visiting companies
• Dealing with problems

These intensive courses are organised at low intermediate level and above. The level of the course which is finally run will be according to the result of the testing of the candidates.

Face to face classes can be complemented by a Net Languages English for Work online course. Each level is made up of a series of modules on different subjects, for example: Telephoning, Making Presentations, Travelling, Negotiating and Selling, Staffing and Training, etc.
